As you may have seen in the ‘About’ page, my name is John Tong and I am currently an Application Analyst Principal at the University of Georgia. In prior positions I was an independent consultant and a manager of a consultancy at Evisions specifically focused on building reporting solutions for clients. I have worked primarily in the manufacturing domain for a decade and higher education for about a decade and a half. I’ve been doing SQL for quite a while and consider reporting one of my passions.
This web site you are browsing now is the attempt to try to share that knowledge with my peers at all the companies and universities around the world that have supported me by attending my presentations over the decades. My intent is to build out a site that consolidates a lot of the knowledge that brings a reader from the knowledge they may have right out of a Database 101 class and to the point I would hire you as one of my colleagues. I want you to have real world thinking, analytics and reporting skills. It sounds overly aspirational, but honestly the more good reporting analysts out there, the better the data people will have to make decisions, and the better things are for EVERYONE.
Once I finish the foundational information, I hope to share my exploration of data science and data literacy for the more advanced SQL developers looking to bring their skills more current to keep pace with all the fancy buzz words out there about machine learning and visualization. If you have any suggested topics please don’t hesitate to drop me a note. I’ll put it in the backlog queue 😀
Thank you, Enjoy, and Let’s Get Kickin’!
-John
